electra townie holiday 3i

The new 2009 Townie Holidays are now available! These are beautiful new bikes from Electra with details unmatched in the industry. Here’s a blurb from Bicycle Retailer:
VISTA, CA (BRAIN)—Electra Bicycle Company is rolling into the Bicycle Museum of America.

The New Bremen, Ohio-based museum selected two of the company’s popular Townie models to add to its permanent collection.

“I am honored that the Bicycle Museum of America has added a pair of Townies to their exhibits,” said Benno Baenziger, Electra’s founder and co-chief executive officer. “It’s really a testament to the Townie aesthetic, utility and popularity. I set out to create the Townie to give recreational riders something different from the typical comfort mountain bike that was prevalent at the time.

“The Townie was designed with a clean slate and was built upon a new riding position and a unique look and feel. The resulting sales success just reinforced my opinion that riders were looking for an alternative to a warmed-over mountain bike.”

Electra introduced the Townie family of recreational bikes in 2003. The models to be displayed by the museum represent the next evolution of the Townie line and include the men’s Townie Balloon 9D and ladies’ Townie Holiday 3i in Apple Green.

“We recognize the impact that Electra’s Townie line has had on the recreational bicycle market over the past five years,” said Annette Thompson, curator of The Bicycle Museum of America. “They not only redefined the recreational category, but also added a healthy dose of style to it.”

Both bikes feature Electra’s proprietary Flat Foot Technology with innovative updates to the classic Townie design. The Townie Balloon 9D floats over potholes and cracks in the pavement thanks to nine speeds and Schwalbe Fat Frank 2.35-inch balloon tires, while the Townie Holiday 3i sports a unique monochromatic look and stylish front tray, creating a great combination of practical performance and style.

Salsa big mama

Designed for epic days on epic terrain, Big Mama is our four inch travel, 29’er trail bike.

Crafted of custom-drawn scandium tubing, we’ve done our best to design an all-day bike that feels just right, rides just right, and looks…well, pretty damn sexy.

Big Mama uses a single pivot, flexing seatstay design to activate a custom- tuned Fox RP2 air shock. Most importantly, the seatstays act not just as a frame member, but also as an integral part of the suspension design.

At proper sag, the tuned seatstays provide resistance to pedal-induced bobbing while still remaining sensitive to small bump forces. On larger hits, the flexing seatstays work with the linkage to assist the rear shock in moving through its full stroke.

Use of the flexing seatstays also eliminates the need for a rearward pivot. This increases stiffness in the rear triangle. It also lessens stress on the frame’s remaining pivots and bearings and increases durability.

In an effort to keep your wheels where you want them, lateral stiffness has been maximized through tube butting and shaping, removal of the rear end pivot, a one-piece linkage, and the use of large weld areas in critical places.

Some say it is all in the details: Seven forged parts per frame add strength while keeping the weight down. Fantastic standover clearance encourages the rider to tackle tough terrain. Size-specific cable routing keeps it all clean and appropriately out of the way. Mud clearance abounds even with 2.4″ tires. The direct mount, post style disc brake mount offers adaptor-free caliper mounting with 160mm rotors.

Big Mama. Sometimes bigger is better.

BYE BYE

Our best thoughts and wishes go with Ciadelle( AKA C-Dawg, C and C-Stinky). She’s scored the big job in San Fran ( also known as the Bay Area which coincidentally rhymes with malaria) and we’ll be leaving us soon. She’s shown here with Julie ( the one in the center ) and Ralph, the 130 year old Galapagos tortoise ( the one on the left, I mean right!) A big elbow bump to you. Thanks for everything and we’re hoping you’ll visit us soon.

halloween post ride report

The carnage is over. With well over 200 boys and ghouls meeting at Rage, we had an absolutely beautiful evening for a ride. With HellBoy leading out, our first stop was Frashers. George and Justin took mighty good care of everyone. The patio was filled with Mormon missionaries, outer space hookers, Tank Girl, most of the cast of a Clockwork Orange and some lady with a menagerie of stuffed animals among others….in other words, a perfectly normal night in South Scottsdale. I believe at this point, the real drinking began…….It was off to the Orange Table. Taking up pretty much all of Scottsdale Road, we arrived to find Jose and Susan had filled tubs of ice with beer!!! What a thoughtful and imaginative idea that was. Did I mention that there was drinking? It was then off to Gilligans and Patty’s first Ave. Lounge. Dancing ensued, then drinking, then drinking, then dancing then…….all ending up at, you guessed it, TT Roadhouse. Did I mention carnage and drinking???Here’s a link to some great photo’sce
